چکیده
Visionary projections of a wide area network teeming with intelligent agents describe an environment where end users and their agents can pick and choose among a great variety of potentially valuable information ser vices However neither network capabilities nor users time and money are in nite Computational markets provide one type of mechanism for allocating limited resources in such an environment in a distributed dy namic way Moreover the underlying economic theory provides an analytical framework for predicting aggre gate behavior and designing individual agents In this paper we describe a prototypical computational mar ket model for information services distributed over a network Our initial focus is on the economic prob lem of when and where to establish mirror sites for the more popular information services Competitive agents choose to set up mirrors based on going prices for network bandwidth computational resources and the information service Depending on the experimen tal setup we observed a range of qualitative behaviors

متن کاملDesigning a Family of Coordination Algorithms
Many researchers have shown that there is no single best organization or coordination mechanism for all environments. This paper discusses the design and implementation of an extendable family of coordination mechanisms, called Generalized Partial Global Planning (GPGP). The set of coordination mechanisms described here assists in scheduling activities for teams of cooperative computational age...
متن کاملAchieving a “Grand Convergence” in Global Health by 2035: Rwanda Shows the Way; Comment on “Improving the World’s Health Through the Post-2015 Development Agenda: Perspectives From Rwanda”
Global Health 2035, the report of The Lancet Commission on Investing in Health, laid out a bold, highly ambitious framework for making rapid progress in improving global public health outcomes. It showed that with the right health investments, the international community could achieve a “grand convergence” in global health—a reduction in avertable infectious, maternal, and child deaths down to ...
متن کاملOrganizational Principles for Multi-agent Architectures
Characterisation of the subject domain of the book Scientists consider multi-agent systems as a domain within artificial intelligence. For software developers, a multi-agent system it is a paradigm for distributed software design. Even though engineering of such systems has been evolving for roughly ten years, we cannot consider it as a mature information technology. We already have at our disp...
متن کاملHigh Stakes Require More Than Just Talk: What to Do About Corruption in Health Systems; Comment on “We Need to Talk About Corruption in Health Systems”
Reluctance to talk about corruption is an important barrier to action. Yet the stakes of not addressing corruption in the health sector are higher than ever. Corruption includes wrongdoing by individuals, but it is also a problem of weak institutions captured by political interests, and underfunded, unreliable administrative systems and healthcare delivery models. We ur...
